They are pretty much always like this. My first experience was in some guys fanfics where he pointed out the reviews he got for his (absolutely amazing) story.

It's a normal thing, for most late millenials/zoomers Naruto was their gateway into anime, so anytime they see anything that's not copying Naruto but actually just following the same tropes, they go berserk. Same energy as the tweet that goes like:

"Getting a lot of boss baby vibes from this" - Guy who has only watched Boss Baby watching his second movie.

Media illiteracy is a thing, they'll hopefully grow out of it when they broaden their horizons and realize most stories have been already told and new stories are just rehashing/mixing old ideas in creative new ways to make them feel fresh, so they can usually be found being based on the same story. I.e How many animes/mangas and even books and series are based on Journey to the West, or even the Three Kingdoms.

TL;DR: Naruto is THE gateway anime for late millenials and most zoomers, so when they try to analyze media while not having enough frame of reference to understand the culture and influence that led to the common elements between works of art they default to thinking it is a case of blatant plagiarism, when in fact their favorite anime does the exact same thing to older animes/mangas/stories.

Its not just the fact that they are strong. Rather they are very actively threatening unlike a lot of the other villains felt up until this point. They are one of the few villains that have given the hero’s this much trouble and hurt/killed so many people. Basically they have a stage presence and innate sense of danger surrounding them.
